The Kaldas Research RR 1 Conquest has its reputation as the high-value electrostatic at $500. With the smaller Koss amplifier, there was an ample amount of speed and transparency. Exactly what you’d expect from an e-stat. There wasn’t a lot of meat on the bones – but plenty of texture. There wasn’t a lot of bass to be heard. Nothing super special here.
Moving onto the larger Mjolnir amplifier – and the story changes. It sounds amazing. There’s an ample amount of the aforementioned qualities – and BASS. The sound was also fuller and more fleshed out. It’s far more engaging versus the Koss amplifier. Pretty impressive.
I guess the moral of the story is: Get a better amplifier for the RR 1 Conquest. It might sound better than the combined cost of another electro-stat system.
