Music in Movies: JUDY

Judy Garland. Best known for her portrayal of Dorothy Gale in Wizard of OZ (1939) and ballad of “Over the Rainbow.”

Not too many people realize how versatile Garland really was. Aside from dozens of films, she created one the greatest live recordings: Judy at Carnegie Hall.

It went down on April 23, 1961 in New York. It was deemed the “greatest night in show business history.” This two-record recording went certified gold and won a Grammy for Album of the Year. This marks the first time a woman has won the award.

Her radiant personality shines through the entire performance. It was no wonder why the audience kept wanting more. The energy must’ve been through the roof. My favorite tracks are How Long Has this Been Going On? and San Francisco.

Unfortunately, due to the huge pressures of show business and being criticized by film executives for being “unattractive” – she went down the road of substance abuse. This ultimately led to her death in London from an barbiturate overdose. She was 47.

This biographical film will is scheduled to be released in the United States on September 27, 2019. Check out the trailer!

Mr. Audio Bacon himself. An open-minded electrical engineer and software developer by trade. I have an obsession with the enjoyment of all things media - specifically in the realm of music and film. So much heart and soul (and money) go into the creation of this artistry. My aim is to find out which products get me closer to what the musicians and directors intended.
