Oh Glorious Day! Roon Now Supports Chromecast Devices!

Yes, I do actually have all those Chromecast devices…

The long-awaited feature has now arrived! With Roon 1.5 (build 333), you could now stream your Roon library to all your Google Chromecast devices – and pretty much everything else (when used with a Chromecast Audio).

I use my Google Home to set reminders, alarms, control lighting, and to play music from Spotify. Now I could listen to my Roon playlists in every room. 🙂

  • Play to multiple Google Home/Chromecast devices simultaneously (through grouped playback in the Google Home app).
  • Use your voice to shuffle, control volume, skip to the next track, etc. No need to fiddle with the Roon app!
  • You could use the power of Roon DSP to equalize every linked device to your liking. Not just your Google Home Max, but your Jambox as well.
  • You could attach a Chromecast Audio to ANY device with aux or optical input to instantly creating a Roon endpoint.

New York, NY – July 6th, 2018 – Streaming juggernaut Roon Labs announces the ability to stream from Roon to all Chromecast products with its new release. Music can now be streamed to Chromecast Audio, Google Home, Google Home Mini, and Google Home Max. Audio with cover art and artist photos can be streamed to Chromecast Gen 1, Gen 2, and Ultra. With Roon you can now stream high-resolution gapless music (up to 96kHz/24-bit) and apply Roon’s powerful DSP, including EQ, room correction, headphone cross feed, and more.

Roon supports grouped playback on Chromecast devices via the Google Home app. Using the Google Home app, you can set up groups of Chromecast devices, which then appear as “zones” in Roon alongside other supported hardware products.

“We are excited to expand the ecosystem of audio devices that work with Roon to include all Chromecast devices. Streaming hi-resolution music to devices throughout your home has never been easier or more cost-effective.” – Enno Vandermeer, CEO of Roon Labs

Chromecast sits alongside current Roon offerings like Sonos, Airplay, Roon Ready, and Roon Tested products. Chromecast will be applied through a Roon update to version 1.5 build 333.

Kudos to the Roon team for their continued efforts in providing great value to their customers.

Roon is only $119/year or $499 for a lifetime membership.
